Governors

Our Governing Body is now split into several categories; Parent, Local Authority Appointed, Co-opted, Staff & Associate Governors following its reconstitution in December 2014.  The Governing Body's task is to represent the public in the running of the school by setting aims and objectives, agreeing policies, targets and priorities; and monitoring, reviewing and evaluating these.  Contact with the Chair of Governors can be made via the Clerk to the Governors, details below.

Meet our Governors

Kaye Leggett - Chair of Governors (Co-opted)

Kaye has been a Charlbury resident since 1994. Her son attended the school and whilst he was there, Kaye became a member of the CSA – she remembers the first Charlbury Beer Festival and being ‘chief counter of money’ on the day!

A few years on and with her son post university, Kaye returned to the school to become a Governor and has  been Chair of Governors since September 2015. Kaye is a Chartered Accountant and brings to the Governing body practical and common sense skills obtained throughout her working life. This is particularly in the realm of finance but also the sometimes required ‘non-educational’ view for the smooth operation of the school.  Kaye is also a member of the Finance Committee and is Safeguarding Governor.

Andrew Wilkinson - Vice Chair of Governors (Co-opted)

Andrew has lived in Charlbury since 1987 and is married with two sons.

His first career in Financial Services encompassed a variety of roles in sales, marketing, finance and general management and he completed a number of professional qualififcations, including an MBA.

Moving to the education sector initially as a Business Manager for a large Primary School his final role before retiring was as Finance Director for an Academy during which time he completed both the Certificate and Diploma in School Business Management.  Andrew is also Chair of the Finance Committee.

Mike Hughes (Co-opted)

Mike has lived near the school in Charlbury for over 11 years with his wife and young son.

Mike has a wealth of practical IT and management experience to contribute to the school and has specialised in educational information technology since 1998, over a period of great change to the function and importance of computers in the classroom.   

Edward Steele (Co-opted)

Edward has lived in Charlbury for many years and his daughter attended the school.  Edward worked in Harpers, Chipping Norton before his retirement but now enjoys spending qualiity time with his Grandaughter.  

Edward joined the Governing Body as an Associate in 2014 but was co-opted in September 2015 and is a member of the Premises (Chair) and Finance Committees.  He is the Whistleblowing Governor.

Catherine Ball (Parent Governor)

Catherine has lived in Charlbury for 10 years. Since her eldest son started in Reception class, she has been closely involved with the school helping with literacy in the classroom, and has been on the Parent Council. 

Catherine works as an editor in primary publishing and before that, she taught English to children abroad. She has had a lifelong interest in education, and her own educational background includes a post-graduate degree in teaching language and literacy.

She joined the Governing Body in 2015 and is currently Chair of the Communications committee.

Greg Lupton (Parent Governor)

Greg was appointed to the Governing Body in January 2018 as a Parent Governor.  Greg’s son, George, started at the school in September 2016.  Greg is an Information Security Consultant and has a background working as a Civil Servant in Central Government. 

Greg is passionate about supporting the school and ensuring that it provides the best possible all round education to its pupils.  Greg also recognises the important role the school plays in the local community, both in supporting the many events and groups in Charlbury, but also in how the school can benefit from the rich wealth of experience on offer in the town.   Greg is a member of the Communications Committee.

Janet Burroughs ( LA Appointed)

Janet has lived in Charlbury since 1978. Both her children attended Charlbury Primary School, and now two of her grandchildren attend. Janet helps her husband with his business, a honey farm based in Charlbury. In her spare time she is a Town Councillor, Chair of the Nine Acres Management Committee and a trustee of the Charlbury Education Foundation.

Janet worked for NatWest Trustee services. Following the birth of her children she became a supervisor at Charlbury Pre-School. She then moved on to work for 20 years in the FE sector teaching law and business and managing a curriculum area at the college in Banbury.

For Janet the key focus of education should always be to give each child the support, encouragement and opportunity to enable them to achieve their full potential.  Janet is a member of the Curriculum Committee and the SEND Governor

Patricia Winstanley (Co-opted)

Patricia has spent a lifetime dedicated to ‘ Educating the Human Potential’, her personal motto whilst running her own Montessori school, establishing Montessori  courses and workshops in schools, colleges and universities across the globe and  helping parents to understanding the stages of their child’s development.

Now retired and a recent resident of Charlbury, Patricia is very pleased to be a governor of the “excellent school” her grandchildren attended and fully embraces the school aspiration to care for and educate ‘the whole child’, she would like to extend this to ‘the whole child, the whole teacher and the whole school’ seeing this as her role of governor.  Patricia is a member of the Curriculum Committee

Liz Drake (Co-opted)

Liz was co-opted to the Governing Body in September 2018. Liz works as a Civil Servant in Central Government but has lived and worked overseas for 16 of the last 18 years (Uganda, Rwanda, India and Kenya). She moved to Charlbury in September 2017 and has two daughters in the school.

Liz is passionate about helping to make a difference in the world and giving something back to the community. She believes in supporting the school to live by its motto to: 'develop the whole child.' She is also grateful for the strong community ethos here in Charlbury and thinks that the school plays a key part in that.  Liz is a member of the Curriculum Committee.

Jane Holt (Headteacher)

Jane joined the School in September 2005 on a Secondment from the Local Authority.  She thought the School had great potential and was successful in her application to become permanent Headteacher in December 2005.  Jane has experience of teaching every year group from Foundation through to Year 8.  She has a BEd Honours degree specialising in English and French, and has spent time teaching in France as well as in London and Oxfordshire.  Jane is fully involved in the Governing Body.

Alex Westbury (Staff)

Alex lived in Charlbury for nearly 20 years and became invovled in the school when her twins started Foundation Stage in 2009.  She joined the CSA and took the role of Chair for 3 years.  During this time she also worked in school helping individual pupils to improve their mathematical skills.  

In June 2012  she started work in the School Office and then became Business Manager in 2013.  Alex is a member of the Finance and Communications Committees. 

Alan Slater (Associate)

Alan's three children have all attended Charlbury School.  Alan was one of the founding members of the Charlbury Beer Festival and has always worked closely with Charlbury School. 

Alan became Site Manager in 2012 and is an Associate Governor and attends Premises Committee meetings

Vickie Jeffs (Clerk to the Governors)

Vickie started work at School in 2014 as an Administrative Assistant and took on the role of Clerk to the Governors in September 2015.  Vickie has children in School and is a well known face in the Charlbury community.
