Miss Boyes, class teacher, and Mrs Huddleston, teaching assistant, welcome you to Year 4.
Year 4 is not very different from Year 3 but with an even stronger emphasis on helping the children to develop as independent learners. Our main focus continues to be the whole school one of the three Ls: Looking, Listening and Learning.
Some children will bring home a reading scheme book and some a 'class library' book. Everyone will bring a reading record. Most children will also hopefully be reading a book of their own with you. Children are encouraged to read with you at least three times a week. All children will have a homework diary. Homework also includes maths and spellings which will be given out on Thursdays. Maths homework should be completed and handed in on Tuesday. Spelling lists will be in the homework diary for your child to practise during the week. In addition there is always a sentence writing activity relating to the spelling list. This has to be completed and handed in on Tuesday.
PE in Year 4 takes place on a Tuesday and Friday.
The highlight of Year 4 is the residential trip in the Spring.
Weekly school newsletters are available on the newsletter page of this website.
If there is anything you are unsure about PLEASE ASK. We have an open door policy at Charlbury School.
We hold two Parent Consultation evenings in November and March where you will receive detailed feedback about your child's progress and can discuss any concerns you may have. In July parents receive a full school report.
At the beginning of terms 1, 3 & 5 every class opens its classroom between 3pm and 4pm for parents and carers to come into school to talk to the class teacher and visit the classroom. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and pass on any information to the class teacher. Meeting dates and times will be notified through the school newsletter nearer the time.
